KIDS CLASS ORGANIZATION: RULE #2 HAVE A PLAN

By: Coach Ray Sanchez

You can make kids feel more secure with structure. I recommend a schedule with both 1) an order of activities and 2) time slots for each activity. Parents are more supportive when they know how to plan their week and month. By having a detailed plan, you can

• Relieve stress on yourself,
• Delegate some coaching duties to your team and
• Reduce questions and restless behavior.

I know that last one may be hard to believe, but your plan gives you peace, confidence and focus. Kids can intuitively read your assuredness, and they respond with participation. It’s a great feeling when you are always one step ahead of your most unruly student! A plan can keep you in control and your students on their heels.

One of the biggest challenges of leadership is to duplicate yourself in others. By providing a detailed, written plan for each of your sessions, you can apprentice coaches to fill in for you when you are out. You can address parents while other coaches run your class without skipping a beat!

It’s hard enough to keep a group of kids productive and safe, but running a box comes with its own challenges, too! Add helping prospective members, running adult classes and parents’ questions to the mix, and you’re in for a rough afternoon! A good plan can increase your peace and provide a better box experience for your staff, members and Lil Beasts!
